Kendrick started his professional career in the year 1999 in a match with American Dragon. In February 2000, Kendrick signed a deal with the World Wrestling Federation. He won his first Championship on September 22, 2000, by defeating American Dragon for the MCW Southern Light Heavyweight Championship.
He wrestled on the premier show of Ring of Honor on February 23, 2002, and won the match to grab the ROH contract. He wrestled in several promotions to compete in Pro Wrestling Zero-One. There he wrestled in the name of "Leonardo Spanky".
