The famous American singer, Aretha Franklin was born on March 25, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee. Her father name is Clarence LaVaughn Franklin who was an itinerant preacher originally from Shelby, Mississippi and her mother name is Barbara Franklin who was an accomplished piano player and vocalist. Her parents had four children in which both C.L. Franklin and Barbara Franklin had children from outside their marriage. The family moved to Buffalo, New York when she was two years old. Before her fifth birthday, her father moved the family to Detroit, Michigan permanently where he took over the pastorship of New Bethel Baptist Church. Her parents had a troubled marriage due to stores of her father’s philandering, they separated in 1948 in which Barbara moved to Buffalo with her son.
