Gilda Susan Radner was born on 28 June 1946 in Detroit, Michigan, the U.S. to parents Henrietta and Herman Gilda who were Jewish immigrants. Her father was a businessman and mother worked as a legal secretary. She had an elder brother Michael. Gilda grew up under the care of nanny Dibby, later she based Dibby’s character on Saturday Night Live.
Gilda went to attend University Liggett School in Detroit. During her adulthood, she had written an autobiography titled It’s Always Something. She was battling with numerous eating disorders and stress during that duration. She graduated from University of Liggett in 1964 and enrolled at University of Michigan. She dropped out of her senior year in order to pursue her career with her Canadian boyfriend Jeffrey Rubinoff. She also worked as a weather girl for a college radio. She became a featured player on the National Lampoon Radio Hour while joining the Toronto Second City comedy troupe.
