Before UFC

Before being a renowned international fighter, he fought with several players in Japanese promotions such as Shooto and Cage Force. Takeya became the Shooto Rookie of the year in 2005. Later, he won the Cage Force Bantamweight Tournament. On April 5, 2009, he made his WEC debut on April 5, 2009. He lost the debut match against Miguel Torres for the WEC Bantamweight Championship via unanimous decision in the fifth round. Learning from the first defeat, he became victorious in his bout against Jeff Curran. However, he later lost against Scott Jorgensen and Urijah Faber but won against Rani Yahya.

UFC

Takeya Mizugaki made his first success against replaced newcomer Reuben Duran at UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann on March 3, 2011. Likewise, he won against Cole Escovedo, and Brian Bowles, but lost against Chris Cariaso. He later remained undefeated for the next fight matches, winning against Jeff Hougland, Bryan Caraway, Erik Perez, Nam Phan, and Francisco Rivera. Takeya finally lost against Dominic Cruz at UFC 178. on September 27, 2014. He also lost his next match against Ajamain Sterling at UFC on Fox 15 on April 18, 2015. Post the defeat, he has fought 3 matches - win against George Roop: defeats against Cody Garbradt, and Eddie Winfield.
