Henry Thomas reported that he decided to become an actor at age of eight after watching a PBS special on acting and later he realized that he had found his calling. After taking part in an open audition in a San Antonio, Texas hotel, he made his film debut in Raggedy Man in 1981. Then he auditioned for the lead role in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1982 when he was at the age of nine.

Henry Thomas is very good at acting.During one audition, he genuinely gives the wonderful and tearful performance from which he won the audition, during which he drew upon his real-life trauma on seeing his pet dog being killed by a neighbor’s dog.
