Her father’s name is Henry who was a railroad worker and her mother’s name is Bertha who was a domestic. When she was at the age of seven, she was sexually molested by a family friend. She joined a local church choir at the Beulah Baptist Church at the age of ten and later performed her first solo two years. When she was at the age of fifteen, she won a talent competition at her high school.
