Education and Kingship

Mohammed attended the Qur'anic school at the Royal Palace before completing his primary and secondary studies at Royal College. Later in 1985, he gained a bachelor's degree in law at the Mohammed V University after attending his Baccalaureate in 1981. While at the university, he wrote a research paper dealing with "the Arab-African Union and the Strategy of the Kingdom of Morocco in matters of International Relations." Also in 1985, Pan Arab Games appointed the then crown prince to its presidency. Also in 1985, the Royal Moroccan Army commissioned him a Colonel Major of the American Army. Till 1994, he served as the Coordinator of the Offices and Services of the Royal Armed Forces. Later in 1987, Mohammed received his first Certificat d'Études Supérieures (CES) in political sciences. One year later, in July of 1988,  he also earned a Diplôme d'Études Approfondies (DEA) in public law. Finally, in 1988, he gained exposure after training with Jacques Delors, then president of European Commission. And from 1990 to 1995, he enjoyed several achievements such as obtaining a Ph.D. in law with distinction, gaining military promotion to Major General, enjoying the newfound role as President of High Council of Culture, and later getting promoted to Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Army. Soon after ascending to the throne, the new King immediately addressed the nation via television and promised to end corruption, poverty, bad financial condition, human rights violation and severe unemployment. King Mohammed VI was born on August 21, 1963, in Rabat, Morocco. Moreover, he is the second and oldest son of former King Hassan II and his second wife, Lalla Latifa Hammou. Nevertheless, The King appointed Mohammed as Heir Apparent and Crown Prince on the day of his birth. A multilingual persona and sports enthusiast, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan tied his wedding knot with Moroccan engineer Salma Bennani (H.R.H. Princess Lalla Salma). Furthermore, the pair shares two children together, namely Crown Prince Moulay Hassan (born in May 2003) and Princess Lalla Khadija (born in February 2007).
