Her parents Milton William Augustine William and Helen both worked as music educators, she was the eldest of the two children. Since her childhood, she was interested in singing, dancing, acting, and modeling and grew up studying jazz dance, violin, piano and French horn. She joins Horace Greenley High School and later attained a scholarship to enroll at the Syracuse University in 1981. She participates and won the Miss Syracuse title after which she gained the Miss New York crown in 1983.
