Datuk Jimmy Choo Yeang Keat PJN DIMP DSPN OBE, popularly known as Jimmy Choo was born on 15 November 1948 at George Town, Malaysia.  Jimmy Choo grew up in a shoemaker family in Penang, Malaysia. He made his first shoe in 1959, at the age of 11, under the expert guidance of his father.

Choo grew up in Malaysia, attending primary school. He then went to Britain's university and graduated from' Cordwainers Technical College' in Hackney in 1983, which is now part of' London Fashion College.' He helped pay his bills during his schooling by working several part-time jobs, including a job at a shoe factory as a cleaner.

In 1986, Choo opened his first shop renting an old hospital building. His unique design approach and superior handmade craftsmanship made him a near-instant success.

His early work for high-end customers was almost entirely on a commission basis and he worked to match personal design tastes and color schemes with specific details about customers.

The original design style and hard work of Choo paid off in 1988 when he was featured in an eight-page magazine of' Vogue.' Two years later, when cultural icon Diana the' Princess of Wales' became a frequent customer, his notoriety received a further boost.

In 1996, despite his enormous popularity, Choo continued to run a relatively small and personal operation that produced only about 20 pairs of hand-made shoes a week. His designs took off as an international brand when he co-founded' Jimmy Choo Ltd' together with British' Vogue ' accessories editor Tamara Mellon.

After selling his 50% stake in' Jimmy Choo Ltd' in 2001 for £ 10 million, Choo focused his work almost entirely on the exclusive' Jimmy Choo Couture ' line produced under that label, although the company remains under Mellon's control. Mellon is also responsible for the' Jimmy Choo Ready-To-Wear ' line, which has recently expanded to include handbags and other accessories.
