Adler commenced her professional journey with Veronica's Closet in 1997. Between 2001 and 2002, she served as a producer for 13 episodes of Family Guy and 16 episodes of Just Shoot Me!, additionally holding the role of supervising producer for nine episodes of Still Standing. Her contributions extended to various shows, where she held the position of co-executive producer, including Life As We Know It, Women of a Certain Age, and Emily's Reasons Why Not.

From 2007 to 2010, Adler played a pivotal role in the production of Chuck, holding the titles of co-executive and executive producer. In May 2010, she joined the ABC series No Ordinary Family and, in the year 2011, became an integral part of the writing team for Glee starting with its third season. Adler, in collaboration with Glee creator Ryan Murphy, co-created The New Normal, a project she dedicated herself to until its cancellation in May 2013.

In the year 2015, Adler, alongside Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, co-created Supergirl—a drama centered around Superman's female cousin, Kara Zor-El. After two seasons, she transitioned away from her full-time role on Supergirl in 2017 to contribute to The CW's reboot of Dynasty. Concurrently, she inked a development deal with CBS Television Studios.
