Young’s Early Life and Career
Darren was born on November 2, 1983. During the mid-1980s, as a teenager, Darren began watching professional wrestling and became interested in becoming a professional wrestler. He attended Union High School in New Jersey, where he used to play American football. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he played football for a year. He finally decided to focus on his academic studies and professional wrestling.
When Rosser was a teenager, he became interested in becoming a professional wrestler. After researching for multiple numbers of wrestling schools, he decided to join on Camp IWF in West Paterson, New Jersey. Finally, he made his professional debut in 2002 spending several years on the independent circuit, including wrestling for the Independent Wrestling Federation and Chaotic Wrestling during his early career. He defeated the IWF Heavyweight Championship in 2003 and won his first major title. Rosser was invited to compete for the East Coast Wrestling Association where he made his debut in the summer of 2004. He lost the title to Nick Malakai less than two months later after defeating Prince Nana. Between 2005 and 2006, Rosser appeared for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) on its weekly programs Sunday Night Heat and Velocity as well as in dark matches on Smack Down and Raw. Rosser signed a WWE developmental contract in May 2009. Under the name Darren Young, he was sent to WWE's developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). While Young was at FCW, he was in a tag team called The South Beach Party Boys with Percy Watson. Later on February 16, 2010, Young competed as part of the first season of WWE NXT, mentored by CM Punk. Young made his debut on NXT with a character described as a "South Beach Party Boy" on February 23, 2010. In a match with against team Cena, Young chose to face John Cena, but failed to win and was exiled and attacked as a result. Young teamed up with Tatsu in a losing effort against The Usos in mid-November and got his first victory of 2011 got his first victory of 2011. Young returned to the show in its fifth season, NXT Redemption as he was selected as one of six former NXT contestants in March 2011. Young appeared with the rest of the WWE roster in the opening segment on January 5, 2015, the episode of Raw. On the May 5 episode of Smack Down, Bob Backlund agreed to become life coach of Young. In an interview released on August 15, 2013, Rosser publicly claimed himself as being gay. WWE released a statement in support of Rosser for being open about his sexuality. Various wrestlers tweeted their support for him. Rosser has been in a relationship with his boyfriend, Nick, since 2011. Rosser has alleged Shawn Michaels and Ricky Steamboat as his favorite wrestlers.
