The Career of Deshaun Watson

Watson was expected to be picked early in the first round by most scouts and analysts. Sports Illustrated, Pro Football Focus, and ESPN ranked him as the best quarterback in the draft, while NFLDraftScout ranked him second.

He was selected by the Houston Texans as the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, acquired through a trade with the Cleveland Browns. Watson had an impressive rookie season, earning awards and setting records. However, his season was cut short when he tore his ACL during practice. In the 2018 season, Watson returned from injury and had notable performances, helping the Texans win the AFC South title. He made his Pro Bowl debut and was ranked 51st on the NFL Top 100 Players list for 2019.

The 2019 season saw Watson's continued success, including multiple AFC Offensive Player of the Week awards. He led the Texans to a 10-6 record and another AFC South title. In the 2020 season, Watson signed a lucrative contract extension. Despite personal and team challenges, he had outstanding individual performances, leading the league in passing yards. However, the Texans struggled as a team.

Watson requested a trade after the 2020 season, citing dissatisfaction with the team's management. Amid off-field controversies, he participated in team activities but did not play in the 2021 season due to non-injury reasons. In 2022, Watson was traded to the Cleveland Browns and signed a record-breaking contract. He faced a suspension due to sexual harassment allegations, but after a settlement, he was suspended for 11 games. Watson returned to play in November 2022, finishing the season with a 3-3 record. In 2023, he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury but is expected to fully recover for the 2024 NFL season.
