To start a professional career, Rick was selected by the Boston Celtics of the NBA in the 1991 NBA Draft. He played six years with the Celtics.

He has the highest points per game of 15.4 in his last season with the Celtics. Then, he joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 1997. He spent seven years with the Lakers and retired in 2004 after he was traded back to the Celtics.

Fox was also the member of the Canada Men's Basketball team and played with the team at the 1990 and 1994 FIBA World Championships.

Rick graduated with a degree in Radio, Television, and Motion Pictures from the University of North Carolina in 1991.
