Before being a renowned international fighter, he fought with several players in Japanese promotions such as Shooto and Cage Force. Takeya became the Shooto Rookie of the year in 2005. Later, he won the Cage Force Bantamweight Tournament. On April 5, 2009, he made his WEC debut on April 5, 2009. He lost the debut match against Miguel Torres for the WEC Bantamweight Championship via unanimous decision in the fifth round.
