Michael Goldstein was born on March 30, 1973, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father and mother were Andrea and Herbert. They had adopted his older sister Lara. 

Adam had a rough family status during his childhood period, his mother left her husband after she caught him having extramarital sex with another man. She discovered her husband in an adulterous act for the second time.

Adam was living with his father. His father realized that Goldstein was not his biological son and was using cocaine and marijuana. So, the relationship between them was a mess. When Adam was 11 years old, he already began experimenting with alcohol. DJ AM moved to Los Angeles with his sister and mother. He attended the Quaker school there. He got arrested at the very young age of 13.

Michael was interested in deejaying from his young age. He has got the first job as a DJ at the club in Los Angeles when he was 21 years old. There he got his stage name as “DJ AM”. He had earned around $40 million over there. He worked there for two years, after that, he started deejaying at the Hollywood club called The Dragonfly.

In 2005, He appeared at Punk ’d. In the same year, he featured in an episode of “The Simple Life”. In 2006, he was called as a guest DJ in "The Ellen Degeneres" Show.

He had a collection of more than 1000 pairs of sneakers in 2007.  This year he was paid $10,000 and $25,000 per event as a solo DJ.Michael. Michael had also entertained superstars like Jennifer Lopez, Ben Stiller, and Leonardo DiCaprio in a private event.

In 2008, Michael and his friend Travis Barker begun collaborating under the name TRV$DJAM. They performed at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. In 2009, after they performed at a college event they ware aboard a Learjet 60 that crashed upon off at Columbia South Carolina which left Travis Barker dead. Goldstein was traumatized by an unexpected demise of his partner.

On August 28, 2009, Michael Goldstein was found dead at his New York's apartment due to a drug overdose. Crack Cocaine and a pipe were obtained from the scene.
