Marcelo started playing football at the age of 9 and by 13 he was at Fluminense, a popular Brazilian youth club. Marcelo officially began his football career in the year 2005 when he joined Fluminense where he played until 2006. In the year 2005, Marcelo won a Campeonato Carioca with Fluminense.
