In 2011, his party won a plurality of seats in the parliamentary election. After that, his party, Justice and Development Party(PJD), formed a coalition with three parties that had been part of previous governments. Personal Life
Abdelilah Benkirane was born in 1954 in Rabat, Morocco. His family originally came from Fes to Morocco. Furthermore, Benkirane father followed Sufism and Islamic fundamentalism. Similarly, his mother attended meetings of woman branch of Istiqlal, a conservative and monarchist party in Morocco. In an interview, Abdelilah has referred his father as his role model. His father died at the age of 60 when Abdelilah was just 16. Last but not the least, he is happily married to a political activist and has six children. Sadly, his youngest daughter is suffering from tetraplegia. It is "paralysis caused by illness or injury that results in the partial or total loss of use of all four limbs and torso."
